Abstract
Citizens of the developed countries have a right to healthy environment unlike Nigeria in which right to environment is not justiceable. Waste disposal poses a serious problem in our country. Throughout the Nigeria, we can see rotten heaps of waste that causes enormous harm to the environment: markets, houses, waterways, etc. This research aims at examining waste disposal and management in Nigeria and also examine the challenges threatening the achievement of a clean and healthy environment in Nigeria. This research relies on doctrinal methodology such as statutes regulating waste disposal and management in Nigeria and also International Conventions and Treaties regulating waste disposal and management in Nigeria. This research recommends that there should be a review of most of the existing waste disposal abatement laws with a view to entrenching adequate penal sanctions and also increasing public participation in environmental sanitation with a view to ensuring adequate protection of the environment.
